A selfie paints a thousand words

On March 2nd, 2014, Oscar presenter Ellen DeGeneres took “the selfie that broke Twitter” – which included 10 A-list celebs such as Var residents Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie – and set a new record with 2 million retweets. But TIME magazine had already published its “Top 100 selfiest cities in the world” list and, amazingly, Los Angeles was not on it.
Compiled over 10 days using 400,000 Instagram images, TIME based its finding on users per 100,000 residents (for more see www.time.com/selfies-cities-world-rankings).
Two French cities shot into the ranks: Paris placed 17th (80 selfie-takers per 100,000 people) and, just before the cut-off at number 100, Nice (30 selfie-takers per 100,000 people). If you’re wondering who snapped up first place, it was Makati City and Pasig, Philippines, followed by Manhattan and Miami.
